Let Stumbling Lead to Delight
The Lord makes firm the steps of the one who delights in him; though he may stumble, he will not fall, for the Lord upholds him with his hand.
Psalms 37:23-24 NIV
Life has been riddled with spiritual warfare lately and I have to confess, sometimes it’s hard to take delight in the Lord amidst all the chaos.
It’s been helpful to remember the ways God has provided (even if it looks different than what I think) and that He is constantly fighting both with and for me (even if I can’t see it).
As I sat thinking about these verses, I find the words “though he may stumble” refreshing. Being human, I will stumble. No doubt about it.
But that’s ok. It’s in these moments God shows up, and if I allow Him, He grasps my hand even tighter, keeps me steady, and encourages me to take one more step.
Friend, I know you’re doing battle. Probably with multiple things. It most likely feels exhausting, frustrating, and may even make you question your faith.
Can I encourage you with one thought?
The closer we draw to God and walk in step with Him, the more scared God’s enemy gets. The accuser will try everything to separate us from God, including going after us and our loved ones.
Although it’s scary, overwhelming, and maddening; we can take courage from the thought the accuser is scared of us. He sees our strength and our turning to God and he doesn’t want it.
Stay strong. Fight with God. Resist the schemes of the devil. Delight in the Lord despite our tendency to blame Him when things go wrong and let Him be the one to uphold us.
Abba Father, Its hard to understand why things happen. Sometimes it’s easier to feel angry, give up, or walk away from a faith that “shouldn’t” allow heartbreak. Father, help us draw closer to You in these moments. May we remind ourselves of the many ways you have provided and delivered in the past and take delight in the signs and wonders of You we see around us. Thank you for being there to uphold us no matter how many times we stumble. Thank you for fighting for and with us. We ask for strength, boldness, patience, and understanding as we continue to walk with You and wait for Your return. With praise and thanksgiving, Amen.
