Letting Go & Letting God
We do not know what to do, but our eyes are on you. 2 Chronicles 20:12b NIV
The last few months have left me repeatedly saying, “I don’t know what to do!”
Vehicle problems, unexpected house projects, sick kiddos, emotional trauma triggers, farm setbacks, and more.
Quite frankly, life has been exhausting.
And I know I’m not the only one.
I read 2 Chronicles 20:1-30 as part of a Bible study on Jonah. We were studying other instances where God provided when circumstances seemed “outmatched.” It recounts King Jehoshaphat defeating two large armies.
For some reason my eyes kept coming back to verse 12. Actually, I know they kept going back because God needed the words to resonate.
Because He knew I was yet again in a challenging spot of wanting and trying to trust His plan, but not able to fully cling to Him and let go of me.
As I read the verse a fourth time, I chuckled and thought, “Peggy, you have a gift of making things more complicated. Turns your eyes to Jesus, That’s it! Stop trying to have all the answers. Stop trying to do it in your timing.”
And then God hit me with this little truth bomb: By trying to do things on my own; it’s like I’m playing God. Yikes!!!
Friend, I don’t know what struggles you’re facing. But I do know, we’ll never have all the answers, we won’t always get our preferred timing, and sometimes the outcome is the complete opposite of what we hoped for.
If that seems defeating, remember Jesus’ words in Matthew 11:28-30. “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” NIV
Abba Father, There is so much to be weary about in this world. Life is constantly churning up circumstances we don’t have answers to. Would you please help us fix our eyes on you? To let go of the need to have everything according to our imperfect plans? Lord, thank you for carrying the weight of the world so we don’t have to. And thank you for countless examples of deliverance in the Bible. Grant us peace and provide strength as we seek your face and your will. Amen.
