The Biggest Fairytale Come True

Though you have made me see troubles, many and bitter, you will restore my life again; from the depths of the earth you will again bring me up. Psalm 71:20 NIV

As children, we tend to see life in different colors. Bright, bold, loving, hopeful, joyful, soft, warm, and comforting.

But as adults, I often find we become jaded and see life in shades of gray. Our “fairytale” bubble has popped, so to say.

I love to read. Fictional suspense, romantic comedy, and historical works are my favorite. Especially when my brain’s looking for an off button. However, I sometimes find myself comparing life to made up characters where 99% of the time there’s a happy ending.

Life this year has held many challenges, and sometimes there doesn’t seem to be a happy ending in sight. And that’s tough.

So, although there’s nothing wrong with reading fictional books, I challenged myself the last couple months to not read them; to focus on the Bible and/or biblically based books instead.

While walking recently, I realized I hadn’t been struggling with comparison nearly as much. I felt closer to God, was learning a lot about my relationship with Him and others, and experienced healing/freedom over a few things.

I thought, “See, I don’t need fairytales. They don’t exist in real life anyway.” A split second later, God corrected my thoughts.

He reminded me of several things all leading up to the biggest fairytale of all times: eternal life with Him!!! (John 3:16)

It doesn’t matter how many times I’ve messed up. He will always love me, always forgive me, and always have a spot at the Father’s table for me.

The grandest fairytale of all time, is waiting for us in Heaven. Streets of gold, no more tears, joyful singing and dancing, reuniting with fellow believers, and meeting our Savior face to face.

Abba Father, with great anticipation, we look forward to gazing upon Your face. Help us not to get stuck in earthly circumstances, but to always look ahead to Your heavenly promises for us. Soften our hearts to see the wonders whirling around us, even amidst trials and dark days. Lord, without you we would have no hope. Thank you for paving a way through. Amen.
